I was born, raised and educated in Victoria, Texas. I graduated from St. Joseph High School in 1986 and from the University of Houston - Victoria with an accounting degree in 1990. My father was a CPA and I knew from an early age that I did not want to be a public accountant although I excelled in those classes in college. So I decided, with the help of my family to attend law school. I attended Texas Tech University where I was awarded a Doctor of Jurisprudence in 1993. Afterwards, I was granted a Master of Laws in Taxation from the University of Denver in 1995.
After completing my formal education, I first worked as an attorney in Victoria. I then moved to Austin, Texas where I was priviledged to practice law with some of the most renowned attorneys in the fields of estate planning, probate and fiduciary litigation. I would not be the attorney I am today without the experience and training I received while working in Austin. I became Board Certified in Estate Planning & Probate Law by the Texas Board of Legal Specialization in 2005.
While in Austin, I married a Victoria girl, the former Annie Wearden. Our first child, Mariah, was born in Austin, After a year and a half of marriage we decided we wanted to return to Victoria to raise our soon to be expanding family. Our second child, Ruth, was born shortly thereafter. Ruth was born with a condition known as agenesis of the corpus callousum (ACC). This has affected the rate of her development and will likely be a challenge for her entire life. I am proud to say that she shows signs of improvement every day and believe she will be able to function fully as an adult. We also have a third child, Jimmy, who is 100% boy, and are expecting the birth of our fourth child early next year.
When I am not practicing law, I spend the majority of my time raising my children. With three young kids, that sounds like I'm only stating the obvious, but my family is the most importing thing in my life.
