John Cooper was born in Norfolk, Virginia (VA) and raised in Norfolk and Virginia Beach. Both of his parents were lawyers. John's dad was a tax attorney and John followed his footsteps by going to the University of Virginia Law School, graduating in 1988. John's mother went back to law school at the College of William and Mary in Williamsburg, Virginia, when she was raising three children and after an earlier career as an English professor at Old Dominion University in Norfolk, Virginia. It was clear from early on that John would be a lawyer.
Professional Achievements:
Chair of the Railroad Law Section of the American Association for Justice (2008-2009);
Designated Legal Counsel for the Transportation Communications International Union (TCIU) (railroad workers' union representing carmen, car inspectors, clerks, and coach cleaners); and
John has the highest rating (AV) granted to attorneys from Martindale-Hubbell Lawyer Rating Service.

John has also lectured to physicians on medical negligence law at Eastern Virginia Medical School in Norfolk.

John has represented injured persons in federal and state courts, including the Virginia Supreme Court;
John has been admitted to practice in U.S. District Courts in the Eastern and Western Districts of Virginia and the U.S. Fourth Circuit Court of Appleals.
Community Service:
President of Ohef Sholom Temple Men's Club, Norfolk, VA, 2005-2007;
Prior Board member of the National Conference for Community and Justice and the Tidewater, Virginia, Southside Jewish Community Center; and
John regularly volunteers his time at the school that his children attend, Norfolk Academy in Norfolk, Virginia, for various fund-raising and career day events.
