A comment on Autoimmune Disorders in Women: What to Look For and What to Tell Your Doctor

This is a very good website to educated people on Lupus. I think everyone who is diagnosed with Lupus needs to ask questions and get educated on the subject. A lot of times doctors do not want to be bothered with researching your complaint, so they loop you in a garbage bag of .....oh it is Lupus and a lot of women are pulled in on med when they do not have this disease. Many doctors get lazy in their practice and are just "sitting out their time" fat and happy and do not want to be bothered with many of their patients' laments. I have a doc that did just that, I am going through it all now and I am angry that they think I am so stupid as to not question what they are telling me. I know my body and no one is going to stuff meds down my throat for something I don't have! Why should I trust a stranger to tell me about my body, I am the expert on that and I know when something is very wrong. It is time we cross examine what doctors tell us.

A comment on Chamber of Commerce Uses Scare Tactics

You might have missed the news, but Arlen Specter has switched parties and the legislation therefore in question was introduced by a Democrat, not a Republican.<br /><br />Also, I realize you may find it helpful to ascribe scare tactics to the Chamber, but I thought I should point out that the title in question ("Terror by Trial Lawyer") comes from a Wall Street Journal column (<a href="http://online.wsj.com/article/SB20001424052748703939404574568130713843644.html" rel="nofollow">More ... </a> ) rather than the Chamber itself.<br /><br />I hope you were simply misinformed in writing this post, rather than intentionally trying to paint a false picture of what's going on.

A comment on Merck Knew Vioxx Risks YEARS Before Pulling from the Market

My 13 year old daughter was injured by Gardasil and completely disabled for the past year. Merck got it right when they used the slogan "One Less" for Gardasil. Because of Gardasil, my daughter was "One Less". She was "One Less Student", "One Less Active Child", "One Less in every aspect of her life". Take it from a mother who has spent the past year sitting by my child's bedside wondering if she would die in her sleep. INVESTIGATE BEFORE YOU VACCINATE. DO NOT trust your doctor to make this decision. If you want to understand Merck's role in the medical community, investigate some of their former wonderdrugs such as VIOXX and then marvel at how many people died from it before it was pulled off the market. The CDC AND FDA need to do their job and get this off the market before more children are harmed. The public is not aware of VAERS and the #'s are grossly understated. I have had to tell my child's doctors about VAERS and make them file reports or she would not be one of the current statistics in VAERS. Even then, her information has not been entered correctly so I know that VAERS is not what it should be. Please do not let this happen to your child. There is NO WAY that I will get my son this vaccine.

A comment on Not So Fast: Nationwide Recall on Slim Fast Due to Bacteria Contamination

Everyone needs to know that natural microorganisms have been used for years on our food crops: ie biopesticides, bioinsecticides, biofungicides, biomicodides etc. Bacillus cereus is amonst those. The following information was taken from one United States Patent only [US Patent 5869042 - Methods for controlling above-ground plant diseases using antibiotic-producing bacillus sp. ATCC 55608 or 55609]. There are MANY OTHERS.<br /><br />Naturally-occurring fungicidal bacterial strains are relatively uncommon. Screening programs have identified certain Bacillus sp. (B. sp. includes B. subtilis, B. cereus, B. mycodies, B. anthracis and B. thuringiensis) strains which exhibit antifungal activity. (See, e.g., Stabb et al. (1990) Applied Environ. Microbiol. 60(12):4404-4412). These strains have been shown to produce zwittermicin-A and/or "antibiotic B," now known as kanosamine (Milner et al. (1996) Appl. Environ. Microbiol. 62:3061-3065), two antibiotic agents which are effective against the soil borne disease "damping-off" caused by Phytophthora medicaginis, Phytophthora nicotianae, Phytophthora aphanidermatum or Sclerotinia minor. (See, Stabb et al., supra).<br /><br />Zwittermicin A is a water-soluble, acid-stable linear aminopolyol molecule. (See, He et al. (1994) Tetra. Lett. 35(16):2499-2502). U.S. Pat. No. 5,049,379 to Handelsman et al. describes how zwittermicin A-producing B. cereus can be used to control the below-ground seedling diseases "root rot" and "damping off" in alfalfa and soybean. When the seed is coated with zwittermicin-A produced by B. cereus ATCC 53522, the pathogenic activity of the root rot fungus is inhibited. Similarly, application of spore-based formulations of certain B. cereus strains to soybean seeds or the soil surrounding the seeds has been shown to improve soybean yield at field sites. (See, Osburne et al. (1995) Am. Phytophathol. Soc. 79(6): 551-556).<br /><br /><br />Smith et al. (1993) Plant Disease 77(2):139-142 report that the activity of the soil-borne fungus, Pythium aphandiermatum, that causes cottony cucumber leak can be suppressed using zwittermicin-producing B. cereus strain UW85. Liefert et al. (1995) J. Appl. Bacteriol. 78:97-108 report the production of anti-Botrytis and anti-Alternaria brassicicola antibiotics by two Bacillus strains, B. subtilis CL27 and B. pumilis CL45. The whole broth and cell-free filtrates were active against Botrytis and Alternaria in in vitro tests and were active against Botrytis in in vivo small plants tests on Astilbe. The authors identified three antibiotics produced by the B. subtilis strain CL27, two of which were thought to be peptides and one non-peptide. Unlike the bacterial strains of the present invention, the antibiotics produced by the B. pumilis strain CL45 demonstrated only in vitro activity, no in vivo activity was demonstrated.

A comment on Is it time to finally outlaw pit bulls?

anonymous, bulldogbreeds.com says "American breeders increased his weight and gave him a more powerful head. A forbearer to the Staffordshire Bull Terrier, they were originally bred to be a fighting dog." It also points out the issue if there is a difference between the American Pit Bull and American Staffordshire Terrier. As Steve has pointed out, these bites are very bad when they happen.

It is an amazing violation of privay. You are so right with the advice for them to call the police. But, on top of everything they need to not lie. These invaders are only affective when they catch someone doing something they said they have not or later deny. People need to live their lives, but be safe and alert.
