  • Distracted Driving

    Jeremy Thurman | March 13, 2008 6:27 PM | 0 CommentsOklahoma City, OK

I've become more and more fascinated with people who drive distracted. Whether text messaging, talking on a cell phone, doing makeup, shaving with an electric razor, styling hair, watching a movie, writing a grocery list, or putting in contact lenses: These activities have become common place on the America Road. Simply, with technology and are busy lives coming into one, more and more...

  • Proving Your Medical Expenses

    Rob McKinney | March 13, 2008 3:06 PM | 0 CommentsNashville, TN

Proving your medical bills is a hard problem for most of my clients to understand. The general public assumes that once you get treatment for your injuries in a truck accident case that you simply provide your medical bills to the insurance company. If your lawsuit is filed, you have to prove your medical bills by taking medical proof by way of depositions. There are three...

  • SUV Roof Crushes Kill Motorists

    Eddie Farah | March 13, 2008 12:49 PM | 0 CommentsJacksonville, FL

In about 35 percent of auto accidents, death occurs where there is a rollover. In a SUV the death rate jumps to 59 percent. The key to surviving the crash, if you are not ejected, is the strength of the vehicle's roof. Right now the federal government is considering increasing roof strength, something that hasn't been done in passengers cars since 1974. The Insurance Institute for Highway...

  • Bad Week for Austin Auto-Pedestrian Crashes

    Brooks Schuelke | March 13, 2008 12:09 PM | 0 CommentsAustin, TX

One of the biggest problems facing Austin police is the increase in auto-pedestrian collisions. This week alone there have been two auto-pedestrian fatalities on Austin's roads. The second auto-pedestrian fatality, which occurred Tuesday night, was the 11th traffic fatality of the year. This is a problem that has continued from last year, when auto-pedestrian wrecks accounted for 24 of the 63...

  • Hospital errors result in 24 fatalities

    Don Jacobs | March 13, 2008 12:09 PM | 0 CommentsVancouver, WA

Buried back on the 2nd page of the Metro section, the above story title appeared in the March 12, 2008 Oregonian Newspaper. Note it says fatalities, not injuries. Injuries, whether serious life threatening ones or merely something from which you recover, are separate numbers. So what type of hospital errors caused 24 deaths? All ones that were easily preventable. The article described some...

  • Car Collides with School Bus

    RLF Staff | March 13, 2008 9:45 AM | 0 CommentsDallas, TX

A school bus transporting 12 children to an Arlington school for the hearing impaired (Jean Massieu Academy) was struck by a passenger car around 7 a.m. March 13. The small vehicle was attempting to make it through a yellow light on the service road at Loop 12 and Keeneland Parkway in Dallas. It is ridiculous to think someone could be in such a hurry that they would put a large group of innocent...

  • Insurance Institute Recommends SUV's Have Stronger Roof Strength

    Sandy Grinnell | March 13, 2008 6:38 AM | 0 CommentsOrlando, FL

The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) has issued a study on the relatiionship of roof strength in SUV's and injuries sustained in an automobile accident involving a rollover. The study reveals that "roof strength definitely influences injury risk."All passenger vehicles currently on the market meet, some even exceed, the governmental standard for roof strength. Yet, 35% of all...

  • As Prom Season Approaches

    Jeremy Thurman | March 13, 2008 4:15 AM | 0 CommentsOklahoma City, OK

Being the father of a girl who will be going to her first prom this year and a trial lawyer, I have to admit that I'm paranoid. I'm paranoid about her behaviour because she is a great child. What I'm concerned about is the other chiildren attending these events and the statistics about car wrecks that come with the prom. Studies show that alcohol related crashes kill more people from the ages...
