A comment on Motorcycle Helmets can prevent a Traumatic Brain Injury

The insurance industry was opposed to repealing the helmet laws. In this case the bikers and some misguided libertarians or anarchists carried the day. I don't recall the legal lobby taking a position one way or the other although individual attorneys voiced opinions such as one prominent east coast trial attorney who was also a biking enthusiast who supported the repeal.

Actually, we bother agree on another thing - we both vigorously support what we believe to be right. We simply differ on what is right

A comment on Motorcycle Helmets can prevent a Traumatic Brain Injury

Avenger: Remember this date. We agree on something! Moronic Michigan has also been working on repealing it's helmet law. I guess public safety continues to take a back seat to convenience and, in most cases, corporate greed.

A comment on Motorcycle Helmets can prevent a Traumatic Brain Injury

Florida, rather moronically, did away with its helmet laws a few years ago with the expected results. Helmets, especially properly designed and manufactured helmets, save lives

A comment on Texting more dangerous than drunk driving

A very good article. I have a friend who,I will not ride with because she is either on the phone or texing with her right hand. One month after I refused to ride with her she caused a crash on the Freeway and people went to the hospital including her. I think my Mom was right when I was learning to drive she told me to always watch the road because the life I save might just be my own. Don't tex and drive

A comment on Contentious Lawsuit in Motorcycle Accident Heads to Sacramento Jury

With such massive head injuries, I must assume the passenger did not have the protection of a helmet. If she did, then the helmet did not do its job.

Riding and not wearing a helmet is just plain stupid...enuff said on that subject.

As to the Icon, I have ABS on both my cars and in 3 years have never seen it light up as I am a good driver and don't put myself in those conditions. I do agree with the plaintiff that if the icon is there and the bike is not so equipped, the fault lies with the dealer for not pointing out this fact. Not sure 15 months of riding would make its absence that obvious. On similar bikes, the dealer could easily put a blocking sticker over the ABS light as a reminder.

Nothing here has been said of the bike speed and the lack of proper attention to traffic by the rider, resulting in his failing to ride to conditions.

I think it is a 50/50 here...with all parties culpable.

A comment on New Law Punishes Drivers Who Endanger Motorcyclists

This law is a start, although the fine should be much higher as well as the consequences. I wish Pennsylvania had such a law. Having been in a bone breaking accident myself where the driver's famous last words was "I didn't see her", I think everyone (including motorcyclists) should have to take a motorcycle awareness course in order to get their driver's licsence. Drivers don't realize what we go through in traffic. I don't think flashing my lights at a driver at an intersection is such a good idea. It might be interpreted as "go ahead" instead of as an awareness signal. Also, seniors should be mandatorily be retested after 70 years of age. I have a friend who is 80 years old and can barely walk or stand and he still drives! Now that's scary!
