Truck Accident Causes Highway Spill

A truck accident early this morning on the I-20 east bridge over Gallatin Street, in Jackson, Mississippi, caused a highway spill and injured the truck driver.

The driver, of Yazoo City, was driving a Party Time ice truck when he struck a Waste Management Truck, causing anti-freeze to spill out and over the highway, according to authorities.

The Waste Management truck driver, of Jackson, was transported to Mississippi Baptist Medical Center for treatment. His condition is not currently known. The accident is still being investigated.

Mississippi Trucker Cited in Trucking Accident

A Mississippi truck driver whose rig veered off Interstate 40 causing over $70,000 in damages to an overhead sign, 200 feet of guardrail and a traffic camera was cited by authorities for the trucking accident.

The driver was transporting vinyl siding on a flatbed trailer when the accident happened. While traveling in the right lane along eastbound I-40, the rig veered off the side of the road slamming through a support for an overhead sign, a pole supporting a traffic camera and lastly ripped out 200 feet of guardrail as he ended up in the embankment.

The rig came to rest on the passenger side and burst into flames. The driver and his two sons escaped the accident with only minor injuries. According to Knoxville Police Department, the driver told the officer he had a steering problem that caused him to lose control of his rig.

KPD spokesman said the investigating officer listed mechanical problems as the possible cause of the wreck after talking with the trucking company, Discovery Transport Inc. of Vernon, Ala.
"The truck was too damaged to do an inspection," he said. "But he (the driver) had reported to the company on two previous occasions, and the company had worked on it, about popping noises with the steering."
However, on Thursday he told the News Sentinel the wreck was caused by his left front tire blowing out. The trucker said he intentionally drove the rig off the road. If he hadn't run off the road, "I'd be in the other lanes, and I would have shut down the whole interstate.

Five Killed in Tractor Trailer Accident

A horrific trucking accident near Pine Bluff claimed the life of five. The accident occurred at 12:30 p.m., Saturday. The accident is especially tragic because four of the five people killed were small children.

A semi-truck trailer was traveling northbound on Highway 425 when the truck crossed the center line and struck a southbound car, killing all the occupants. The driver of the vehicle was a 26-year-old woman traveling with her four children: a 7-year-old, 5-year-old, 4-year old and 2-year old.

The truck destroyed the small car, killing everyone inside including the four children in the mother. Witness say the accident may have been the cause of a drowsy driver. A few witnesses say they saw the truck parked on the side of the rod and the driver sleeping just before the accident.

The truck driver was transported to the hospital with minor injuries. He will be charged with manslaughter and will be arraigned on Monday.

School Bus Collides with Truck

When a school bus crashed with a pickup truck on Mississippi Highway 1, Monday, no serious injuries occurred.

Fog was the leading contributing factor for the truck accident, according to Mississippi Highway Patrol.

Superintendent of the West Bolivar School District said, the driver had just started his route and only one student was on the bus when the accident occurred.

"He was on Perthshire Road and was attempting to pull on to Hwy. 1. He was going to head south back to Gunnison, but as he pulled on the road, he collided with the pickup."

The bus came to rest in a ditch along the highway. All involved were taken to Bolivar Medical Center for precautionary evaluation.

The student on board was a handicapped student at West Bolivar Middle School. The 14-year old is confined to a wheelchair and is secured on the bus each day.

She is already restricted to a wheel chair and is always safely locked down." The impact happened at the front of the bus, so she was actually in less danger than the driver and bus assistant."

The girl is doing fine other than being sore from the accident and expected to return to school next week.

Man Dies in Truck Accident

On Wednesday morning, an Aberdeen man lost his life in a two-vehicle accident.

The Aberdeen man, 83, was killed when the truck he was driving was hit by an 18 wheeler. The accident happened on Old Highway 8 and Highway 45. He was pronounced dead at the scene of the accident.

The driver of the 18 wheeler was taken to North Mississippi Medical Condition whereis condition is unknown.

Charter Bus Crashes into 18-Wheeler

Tuesday, a family of gospel singers was on their way to their next gig when their charter bus crashed with an 18-wheeler, injuring both drivers.

The accident involved the charter bus and a 18-wheeler hauling steel. The accident slowed down traffic for over two hours. The accident happened when the bus driver, one of the gospel singers, tried to pass the 18-wheeler but underestimated the difference therefore crashing into the rear flatbed of the truck.

No Injuries in Semi Accident

A semi-truck, trucking accident occured Monday when the driver lost control while hauling 44,000 pounds of potassium carbonate, leaving the truck sideways on the highway.

The driver, James Harrington, was not injured and was not taken to the hospital from the scene, said Etheridge of Mississippi Department of Environmental Quality.

Etheridge said none of the potassium carbonate was spilled in the crash, only diesel fuel and hydraulic fluid made it onto the roadway. He further said the public was never in danger from the accident.

Potassium carbonate is a white salt that is dissolved in water to form an alkaline solution that is used in the product of soap and glass.

Hazmat Services Inc cleaned up the fluid and the fuel removal took approximately two hours.

Harrington, who works for Phillis Service Corp, was traveling West on US 90, attempting to turn right on Industrial Road when the accident happened.

State Trooper Steven Lofton would not comment if drugs or alcohol were a concern or if the vehicle was traveling too fast while trying to make the turn. He did say the accident is under investigation.

Driver Keeps Wreck from being Worse

Like a father to most, the 77-year-old is called "Pappy" by most. After Monday's truck accident they might want to call him hero.

Charles Collier Sr. steered his 18-wheeler clear of other vehicles as it bounced and jackknifed off the right of way on U.S. 45 during rush hour. Authorities at the scene say a red Chevy Cavalier pulled out in front of Collier. His quick action saved others from being involved in the accident.

While it may have been good for the other motorists, Collier suffered two hours as emergency crews tried to free him from the tangled mess of his truck cab. Crews came from all over to help with the rescue.
