A comment on Arizona distracted driving laws see red

Hi Jackie - I work for a personal injury law firm here in Houston, TX. We've seen the number of cases involving distracted driving increase significantly. Stricter laws are a good step to curbing the dangerous practice. Greater awareness, safer cars and safer devices/technology also play a part.

Anyhow, thanks for sharing! - Aly

A comment on Does Your Financed Car Have Real Car Insurance?

What happens is they let it lapse or they don't get the information to the financier, then they get a notice saying that insurance has been purchased , and always think that they have coverage. It's part of the loan, so other then the increased payment, they figure everything is OK. I'm positive they give the information to the police, thinking it's good. Problem is that it's not and I have no idea how they can sell it as insurance in Minnesota. Thanks for reading and the comment.

A comment on Does Your Financed Car Have Real Car Insurance?

This is very helpful information. While it's hard to believe someone would think they could have a car without carrying car insurance, I guess you could easily get caught in the trap from the financing company. I blogged about your info, thanks!

A comment on OH Sh..! I’m Going to Crash!

The carnage from texting and cell-phone distracted drivers is just terrible. I don't think the damage can be quantified accurately but the toll is especially appalling since it is largely the young who usually are the victims. I personally know (knew) three teens who died in traffic accidents where the driver was texting.

I don't text, but I do carry a cell phone. My rule of thumb while driving is that I pull off the road and then answer the cellphone, or I ignore the call until I am someplace where I can stop and return the call. Being the libertarian that I am, I hate to suggest something as drastic as having car engines emit a cellphone blocking signal as long as the engine is running but a few more fatalities and I probably can be pursuaded of the necessity

Thanks to the combined efforts of the motor vehicle manufacturers and the insurance industry, fatality rates in automobile accidents have been declining steadily for the last four decades. I would hate for that good trend to reverse itself, but that's what I fear will happen if texting and cellphone usage cannot be controlled

I could never understand why people find texting or talking on the phone while driving completely normal! Either that or they're unbelievably stupid for they continue to do it all the time. Too bad so many people lose their lives in such accidents, really!

A comment on The Reason For The Rise In Florida Auto Accident Insurance Fraud

An Ad Hominem is a general category of fallacies in which a claim or argument is rejected on the basis of some irrelevant fact about the author of or the person presenting the claim or argument. Typically, this fallacy involves two steps. First, an attack against the character of person making the claim, her circumstances, or her actions is made (or the character, circumstances, or actions of the person reporting the claim). Second, this attack is taken to be evidence against the claim or argument the person in question is making (or presenting). This type of "argument" has the following form:

Person A makes claim X.
Person B makes an attack on person A.
Therefore A's claim is false.
The reason why an Ad Hominem (of any kind) is a fallacy is that the character, circumstances, or actions of a person do not (in most cases) have a bearing on the truth or falsity of the claim being made (or the quality of the argument being made).

Happy to engage in a debate about the substance of the article. As to my personal selfish concerns: as a father of 3 teenage drivers I would much rather not have to pay thousands for each each year for illusory PIP coverage and enjoy the benefits of lower costs to everyone. For example, my son's cost of coverage for PIP is more than his entire annual cost of full health insurance! Yes I may very well lose business, yes, I may make less money, that does not make the argument any less valid.

If you have a dispute with the merits of the argument and not with me personally I would love to hear them. I may be wrong but attacking me personally does not make it so.
