According to Abbott Laboratories Inc., the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has found that one of the pharmaceutical maker's manufacturing plants does not meet quality and safety standards. A spokesperson for Abbott said the company has not thoroughly reviewed the report on the Lake County, Illinois facility but would cooperate with the FDA's decision regarding the plant's future.

Abbott follows in the footsteps of Eli Lilly and Schering-Plough, two other health care companies recently cited for failing to meet FDA quality standards. Abbott, the maker of various diagnostic tests and medications, recently made headlines when its diet drug Meridia was linked to several deaths.
