Four people were killed and close to 160 others were injured yesterday when an Amtrak Auto Train derailed along a rural stretch of track in central Florida. According to investigators with the National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB), a track misalignment may have caused the Amtrak engineer to suddenly initiate an emergency stop, which led to the accident. Officials stated that over twenty cars left the tracks and slid over the ground like an "accordion".

Safety Board investigators plan to interview crewmembers today and examine the train's wheels for any indication that they may have ran over a stretch of rough track. The Auto Train, carrying more than 450 passengers, was in route to the Washington, D.C. area from Sanford, Florida when it derailed about an hour north of Orlando. The tracks now in question are owned by CSX Corporation. According to the Florida Highway Patrol, CSX inspected the tracks Thursday morning.
