Less than a month after Bayer Corporation was found not liable in the first lawsuit to go to trial over the cholesterol medication Baycol, a Mississippi court cleared the pharmaceutical maker in the second U.S. case to reach a jury. The lawsuit involved a woman in her 70s who alleged Baycol use led to debilitating muscle injuries linked to the drug.

A Bayer spokesperson said the verdict validated the company's claims that "it acted responsibly in the development, marketing and voluntary withdrawal of Baycol." To date, over 8,400 lawsuits have been filed over Baycol. Bayer has agreed to about 500 out-of-court settlements.
