A California couple filed a lawsuit against the American Dental Association (ADA) last week alleging fillings contributed to their son's development of autism. Kathy Galeano, 37, claims mercury in her nine amalgam dental fillings caused her son, Daniel Galeano, to develop the neurological disorder during her pregnancy. Also named as defendants are the California Dental Association and several corporations that produce materials used to make the fillings.

Thimerosal, a mercury-containing preservative used in several vaccines, made headlines recently after several lawsuits linked the substance to the development of autism in children.
