The U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) announced Tuesday that deli products made at Pilgrim's Pride Corporation's Franconia, Pennsylvania plant are the likely source for a recent listeria outbreak in the Northeast that has caused 46 illnesses and at least seven deaths. According to a CDC spokesperson, samples taken from the facility tested positive for the same
listeria strain that has caused the recent cases. On Sunday, Pilgrim's Pride recalled 27.4 million pounds of poultry after the bacterium was detected in the floor drains of the Franconia facility. Until today, health regulators did not believe Pilgrim's listeria strain was the source of the deadly outbreak.
