Experts who insist wireless phones do not cause brain cancer received supportive news earlier this week when the Swedish Radiation Protection Authority released a report that found no "consistent evidence" between cellular phone use and an increased risk of cancer. As part of a Protection Authority sponsored review conducted by researchers with the International Epidemiology Institute in Rockville, Maryland, nine studies conducted on the safety of wireless phones since 1996 were analyzed. Researchers determined that, from a molecular and biological standpoint, scientific evidence did not exist for a "causal association between use of cellular phones and cancer."

Questions, however, remain in the medical community over the safety of mobile phones. Last month, a report published in the European Journal of Cancer Prevention indicated that users of first-generation mobile phones, known as Nordic Mobile Telephone (NMT) analogue units, face a greater chance of developing a brain tumor than those who have never used the models.
