Kansas City pharmacist Robert Courtney pled guilty today to twenty Federal counts of drug tampering. Courtney admitted to diluting the chemotherapy drugs Taxol and Gemzar in order to save money. The pharmacist reportedly owed over $600,000 in taxes and nearly $300,000 to a local church. As part of the agreement with the government, prosecutors will recommend a sentence of seventeen to thirty years in prison.

If Courtney had been tried and convicted on all counts, he could have faced 196 years in a Federal penitentiary. The trial was scheduled to begin March 11.
