A California jury recently ordered San Diego's second largest insurance brokerage firm, Barney & Barney, to pay a former employee $2.5 million for injuries she suffered when a fellow worker punched her in the stomach. The plaintiff, Wendy Beckner, was involved in an argument with operations manager Charles Elva Herring on December 21, 1999. The following day Herring struck Beckner in the abdomen. Beckner, who had a history of medical problems before the incident, claimed that abdominal pain related to the assault has prevented her from working. In addition, Beckner was diagnosed with pelvic cysts shortly after the violent incident.
