A new study conducted by the U.S. Preventive Services Task Force reveals that hormone replacement therapy (HRT) does not prevent or reduce the risk of heart disease in women. Researchers involved in the inquiry analyzed several studies on the topic, concluding that the Women's Health Initiative's (WHI) recent announcement that HRT may cause breast cancer, strokes, heart attacks, and blood clots is accurate. In July, the WHI stopped a 16,608-woman study on the benefits of HRT three years early, concluding that hormones such as estrogen and progestin place women who still have their uterus at risk of developing several disorders, including cardiovascular disease.
