Forget painting rosy cheeks on a child’s face at parties – The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) is recalling a commonly used face paint because of contamination.
The brand name is Fun Express Inc., owned by the Oriental Trading Co.
The paints are made in China by Shanghai Color Art Stationery Company Ltd., and were distributed nationwide, says the FDA in its recall notice.
The six-paint pack is used at children’s parties, festivals, and sporting events. An FDA spokeswoman said the paint had a high yeast and mold count which in some children led to rashes, itchiness, burning, and swelling where it is applied.
You are asked to stop using the products and discard them or return them to the retailer.
Any adverse reactions can be reported to the FDA’s MedWatch program at http://www.fda.gov/medwatch.
The company says it recalled 95 percent of the paint last January and the items were sold to only 130 customers, reports AP. A spokesman says the recall is a precautionary move.

_ Blue: item No. 85/2077; UPC 8 8760048110 7.
