The Mabb family of Queensbury, New York is suing General Electric Corp. for $1.2 million in damages. The lawsuit claims that the company failed to properly dispose of GE capacitators, used as power surge protectors, which led to PCB contamination of the Mabb's property. According to the family's attorney, Penny Mabb has scars, boils, skin lesions and a variety of other health problems due to the contamination. Capacitators were found on the Mabb's property, which is located approximately one mile from a junkyard. It is unclear how the capacitators got onto the property. As the capacitators endured environmental conditions, PCBs leeched into the soil.

GE denies responsibility for Mrs. Mabb's illness. A GE spokesperson said the company never dumped its capacitators and cannot be responsible for the contamination.
