The "father of fen-phen" has been convicted in Maryland of illegally selling the drug combination over the Internet. Pietr Hitzig could be sentenced to more than 100 years in prison. Maryland law requires such an examination prior to dispensing prescription medication.
Fen-phen was pulled from the market in 1997 after Federal regulators discovered that the diet medication caused serious and occasionally fatal heart valve irregularities.
