Sunset Fireworks, located 40 miles southwest of St. Louis, recently experienced its third explosion in two years. According to a St. John's Mercy Medical Center spokeswoman, three women who were employed at the factory were admitted after suffering from burns, shrapnel wounds, and smoke inhalation. One victim was listed in critical condition, another in serious condition, and a third woman was listed in satisfactory condition at the hospital's burn treatment center.

The explosion blew the roof off of the building and caused two walls to collapse. The Jefferson County sheriff's department is investigating the incident.
