Recent articles on car accidents, articles on fatal car accident reports and a recent survey conducted by The Road Information Report (TRIP), a Washington-based transportation research group, found that Orlando and Tampa rank highest in the nation for traffic fatalities. Three other Florida cities, West Palm Beach, Jacksonville, and Fort Lauderdale, also made the survey's top ten list. Officials say that Florida's population growth, tourism, and outdated highway system contribute to the thousands of traffic fatalities that occur each year. The Florida Department of Transportation says it plans to conduct a separate investigation into why Florida cities rank so high.
