Four families in St. Charles County, Missouri settled wrongful death lawsuits Friday with three nursing homes. The families of Joseph Mudd, Mary Ann Grezaffi, Stacey Hillis and Harmon Holmer filed the lawsuits against the nursing facilities after determining their loved ones' deaths were due to poor care at the homes.

Mudd, who suffered from severe weight loss, malnutrition and dehydration, and Grezaffi, who fell from her wheelchair and fractured her right femur, died at Claywest Nursing Home in St. Charles. Hillis died at Florissant Nursing Center in Herculaneum after fracturing her left and right hip. The family of Holmer, who was living at Scenic View Skilled Care Center, also in Herculaneum, alleged the nursing home failed to enlist the aid of a physician when Holmer's health began to rapidly deteriorate. The lawsuits settled for more than $845,000.
