The Las Vegas Police Department has agreed to settle a misconduct lawsuit filed by two tourists for $900,000. In May 1997, 31-year-old Juan Berry and 32-year-old James Suggs were arrested outside a Las Vegas nightclub after a fight with off-duty SWAT officers. Berry and Suggs alleged they did nothing wrong and that the officers filed phony charges against them.

During the defendants' trial, a department supervisor testified that the tourists were polite and fully cooperative with the SWAT members, whom the witness stated were heavily intoxicated and belligerent. The authorities are asking the city to approve the settlement next week.
