The start of Memorial Day weekend in Maryland began with depressing news for several families as a horrific pileup along a stretch of highway left two dead and dozens injured. Nearly 90 automobiles wrecked along a foggy section of Interstate 68 when a truck hit a van in the westbound lane and a vehicle in the eastbound lane stopped to view the accident. Maryland police closed a 17-mile stretch of the interstate.

Witnesses reported seeing a series of rear end collisions as vehicles slammed into stopped automobiles at over 60 miles per hour. One Maryland state trooper described the accident as one of the worst in the state in nearly 20 years.
