Meat Contained Rodents - Processor Fined $500,000

The Federal government fined Processors Unlimited Operating Co. $500,000 after it determined that the company transported and sold over 75,000 pounds of meat products that were contaminated by rodents. The fine followed an investigation by officials from FSIS and the Texas Department of Health. FSIS is a Federal agency which is charged with ensuring that meat, poultry, and egg products are safe, wholesome, and accurately labeled.

Processors Unlimited Operating Co. of Lubbock, Texas was found in violation of the Federal Meat Inspection Act. In addition to the fine, the company is required to pay a $125 special assessment fee and restitution in the amount of $22,221 to six retail stores in Tennessee, Mississippi, Idaho and Nebraska.
