A Missouri jury recently awarded $7.2 million to the mother of a 17-year-old man who drowned in an apartment complex's swimming pool. On July 24, 1999, Carlos Sango drowned in the pool at Ashley Park Apartments in Kansas City when his shirt became entangled in a broken drain cover. According to a maintenance worker employed by the complex, he told the manager days before the accident that the drain needed to be covered. Defense attorneys argued that there was no proof the drain was involved in Sango's death.
