Plane Crash Takes Five Lives
A small plane that was attempting to make an emergency landing crashed into two homes this morning at around 8:40 a.m. Five people were killed and three others were seriously injured.
Only two names of the dead have been released, one being Dr. Bruce Kennedy, who was a Daytona Beach plastic surgeon and husband to Lesa France Kennedy who is the president of the International Speedway Corporation. Michael Klemm was a pilot with NASCAR Aviation was also confirmed dead.
The airplane was registered to a Competitor Liason Bureau Inc. of Daytona Beach which is linked to William C. France, the late chairman of NASCAR and the father of Lesa France Kennedy. France passed away on June 4, 2007.
The plane was going from Daytona Beach to Lakeland when the pilot discovered smoke in the cockpit. He was trying to make an emergency landing at the Orlando Sanford International Airport, but the plane crashed only a mile or so short of their destination.
The airplane crashed right into two homes which have been basically destroyed by the debris, flames, and smoke. At least three people inside the homes are known to have been injured including two adults and one child who was severely burned on 80 to 90 percent of his body.
