AMA, AARP Endorse Dem Plan While GOP Rallies
The American Medical Association Thursday said it supported passage of the Democratic-written health care reform bill, expected to go to a vote Saturday.
AMA president, Dr. J. James Rohack said the bill is not perfect but was consistent with the group’s principles for health care reform and expanding medical insurance for the uninsured. The group wants to prevent deep cuts in payments to doctors under Medicare.
Wednesday the AARP voice it support for the plan.
That was the backdrop to a GOP rally this afternoon called a “House Call” as Republicans launched their latest offensive against the Democrats version of health care reform.
This rally came complete with a banner of Holocaust victims.
The staged gathering, headed by Rep. Michele Bachman (R-Minn) brought chanters yelling “Kill that bill!” to House Republicans, seemed to attract a sizable crowd of voters, reports the Hill.
Physician and Rep. Tom Price (R-Ga.), who spoke after Bachmann said, "We are here today for a House call on Washington. He called the bill “legislative malpractice.”
Actor John Voight was in the crowd and spoke, accusing President Obama of everything from colluding with ACORN to admiring the Rev. Jeremiah Wright.
Rep. John Boehner called the bill “PelosiCare.”
"I don't know what the outcome of that vote is going to be," the Republican leader in the House said. "But I'm going to stand with you and all freedom-loving Americans against this bill."
Voters are asked to call into their lawmakers and let them know a Yes vote on the bill will be a No vote for them in 2010.
The staged rally included a banner image of Holocaust victims dead bodies in a pile. The Daily Kos reports those in attendance included: Minority Leader John Boehner (OH), Minority Whip Eric Cantor (VA), Roy Blunt (MO), Jeb Hensarling (TX), Cathy McMorris Rodgers (WA), Michele Bachmann (MN) -- who was a key organizer of the event -- Virginia Foxx (NC), Ginny Brown-Waite (FL), Jean Schmidt (OH), Sue Myrick (NC), among others. #
