Purdue Pharma is tired of the negative press it has received since OxyContin began to make headlines. The pharmaceutical company, which makes the painkiller, is launching a six-month advertising campaign designed to inform consumers about the company's efforts to curb abuse of the drug. In newspaper advertisements across the country, Purdue highlights its efforts to make abuse-resistant medications and inform children about the dangers of prescription drug misuse.

OxyContin has been linked to hundreds of overdose deaths and recently made headlines when Dr. James Graves became the first physician to be convicted of manslaughter in an OxyContin overdose case.
