Sony Corp., in cooperation with the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC), announced a voluntary recall of 69,000 AC adapters sold with certain VAIO notebook products.
To this date, there have been no reports of injury associated with the recalled products but the company has received four reports of the adapters short-circuiting, due to insulation that can fail over time. None of the reported incidents occurred in the United States.
The recall applies only to AC power adapters with model number VGP-AC19V19, that were supplied with the following VAIO all-in-one computers and docking stations:
· All-in-one computers sold after September, 2007
o VGC-LT series
o VGC-JS240, VGC-JS250, VGC-JS270, and VGC-JS290 series
· Notebook docking stations sold after September, 2005
o VGP-PRBX1
o VGP-PRFE1
Consumers can request a free replacement adapter by visiting Sony’s eSupport site, or by calling (877) 361-4481 toll-free anytime. In the meantime, the agency advises consumers to turn off their computer, unplug it and stop using the recalled adapters.
In September 2008, Sony recalled certain VAIO TZ-series notebook computers due to irregularly placed wires near the computers that caused a short and overheating.
Halloween Flashlights Recalled
Target is voluntarily recalling 610,000 Halloween flashlights because they can overheat and melt. The company has received eight reports of flashlights overheating and melting, including one report of a hand burn.
The flashlights were sold at Target Stores nationwide between August 2008 and September 2009. For more information call Target toll free at 800-440-0680.
