A Texas jury ruled in favor of pharmaceutical giant Pfizer Inc. this week in a lawsuit filed over the now-banned diabetes medication Rezulin. Doris Brown, 63, died of liver and stomach complications in December 1998, eight months after beginning treatment with the drug. Brown's family filed suit against Warner-Lambert, which Pfizer acquired in June 2000, after Rezulin was pulled from the market due to its link to a series of liver-related deaths.

During the trial, however, attorneys for Pfizer argued that Brown's doctors did not carefully read the warning labels on Rezulin before prescribing the medication. Attorneys also argued that the drug was effective and had only harmed a small fraction of its millions of users.
