Sara Lee Foods Corp., one of the world's largest food, beverage, and household products manufacturers, settled dozens of racial discrimination lawsuits Tuesday. As part of the settlement, the company agreed to pay $3.5 million to 139 African-American employees at a Pennsylvania hot-dog facility. The former workers alleged they were subjected to racial slurs, cartoons and frequent drug tests, as well as given extra duties while being denied promotions.

The employees also claimed Sara Lee intentionally shutdown the Ball Park Franks plant in Philadelphia in retaliation for the lawsuits. Over 200 union employees eventually lost their jobs after the closing.
