A second study now finds that alcohol consumption prior to an injury reduced the risk of death, in this study by 65 percent. No one is advocating drinking and driving but there may be a therapeutic use for alcohol to speed healing.

Documents in a wrongful termination case against Toyota will stay unsealed as a former insider accuses the automaker of hiding and destroying evidence in hundreds of injury and death rollover cases. This was the second time Toyota tried to have the documents sealed. 15 cases have already been reopened.

Bombastic pitchman, Billy Mays, suffered a blow to the head on a flight shortly before complaining he didn't feel well. He was found dead in his bed Sunday morning.  USAirways says no passengers complained of injuries when the plane blew two tires upon landing.

Testing the bounds of marketing decency  – Apple has pulled its iPhone application called “Baby Shaker” after public criticism, two days after it was released.  Shaken baby syndrome kills about 5,000 babies a year.

Charla Nash is making some progress but doctors at the Cleveland Clinic now say she likely will not recover her eyesight after a 200 pound chimp attack.  She has filed a $50 million lawsuit against the chimp's owner.  The animal, killed by police, had been given Xanax for anxiety just before the attack.

Just three weeks before the death of Natasha Richardson from a head injury on the ski slope, emergency room doctors in Quebec had called for a mandatory helmet law, saying they save lives.  It is now under consideration.

Could a helmet at the ski slope have saved Natasha Richardson?  In some cases yes, unless the concussion occurs at a high speed. The early signs of brain swelling may go unnoticed, which make survival less likely.

A new study finds, women who are victims of domestic violence tend to have different facial injuries than those that are injured in accidents. The information could help doctors to identify victims and refer them to safety programs.

Harvard researchers may be closer to pinpointing the type of plaque that causes Alzheimer's disease. Injecting beta-amyloid plaque into mice, they found that the two-molecule form caused the disease. That may explain why some people with brain plaque never develop symptoms of Alzheimer's.
