The FDA has received so many reports of Chantix and Zyban users experiencing depression, hostility, agitation, and suicidal thoughts and commiting acts of suicide, that today the agency issued a Public Health Advisory that the smoking cessation drugs will be required to carry a stronger warning label.

Being offered money helped a large number of General Electric employees quit smoking in this published research. While most people make several attempts to stop smoking, social networking and financial compensation might be tools for business to encourage a healthier workplace, researchers suggest.

Chantix, the smoking cessation drug, and heparin top the list of the drugs most likely to cause death and injury as compiled by this watchdog group.  They represent just a tip of the iceberg.

The rates of suicide are up among the group generally considered the happiest and most secure. Do prescription drugs have some bearing on suicide rates?

A San Francisco ban on tobacco-product sales at pharmacies is facing a court challenge by Walgreens. The retailer says its unfair and unconstitutional that grocery stores and big box retailers can still sell cigarettes.  A face-off in court is set for September 30th.

Pfizer pulled ads featuring Robert Jarvik six months ago after a Congressional investigation began into false and misleading advertising by the drug industry. Now actual patients will be used and expect to see more direct-to-customer ads for symptoms that don't have to spend precious ad time on the side effects of specific drugs.

You've seen the ads featuring celebrities pitching prescription drugs, such as Sally Field for Boniva.  Five billion a year is spent on direct-to-customer ads on TV, radio and print. Now a new study says it doesn't necessarily translate into more sales for drug manufacturers.

A Pfizer executive's helicopter rides to work from her Maryland home has the company rethinking whether executive benefits at a time of job cuts is a good idea.  The executive reportedly has received a bill for $300,000 to cover the cushy commute.

The FDA is sorting through hundreds of adverse reports on Chantix, the smoking cessation drug blamed for everything from psychotic episodes to fainting and depression. The underfunded agency admits the search is slow while the drug remains on the market.

The FDA issued an Alert Friday saying Chantix, the Pfizer smoking-cessation drug is linked to suicidal thoughts, anxiety and depression. Pfizer says that may be the result of quitting smoking.
