This third annual consumer guide from The Ecology Center in Ann Arbor, Michigan finds one out of three children's toys still has measurable levels of heavy metals, though lead levels are declining. Use Their HealthyStuff.org to shop and a Lead Test Kit for the home may not be a bad idea either.

Target Corp will pay $600,000 for allowing lead-containing toys on its shelves. The responsibility for assuring no foreign made toys are continuing to be imported with excessive lead levels, lies with the retailer.

Tylenol is removing 21 children's products from store shelves because of a bacterial contamination found in some of the inactive ingredients. None of the finished product reportedly has the bacteria, but check the lot numbers and return it for a new product.

Washington state missed the deadline to submit a list of the top 50 chemicals that makers of children's products are required to report under a law passed in 2008. Expected to make the list are Bisphenol-A and mercury.

Dredging on the Hudson River has been halted over concerns that the probable carcinogen, PCB, is being churned up in the the silt where it settled 50 years ago. General Electric Company (GE) has reluctantly agreed to begin cleaning up the chemicals it dumped from 1946 to 1976.

Americans in 23 states are reported to be fatter than they were one year ago, according to a new nationwide report. In Mississippi, nearly one-third of adults are considered obese and 44.4 percent of children ages 10 to 17. Where does your state rank?

A newly released study suggests there may be a link between the use of stimulant medications prescribed to treat attention-deficit hyperactivity disorder, known as ADHD, and sudden cardiac death in healthy children. But the FDA says due to limited data, children should not stop taking these drugs.
