Environmental Protection Agency tests of drywall made in China confirm it contains sulfur, not found in U.S.- made drywall, in addition to the metallic element, strontium, at ten times the level of domestic drywall.

Two U.S. senators have filed new legislation aimed at initiating a recall and imposing an immediate ban on importing “tainted building products from China." The tainted Chinese-made drywall has been creating problems in homes from Florida to Louisiana.

Drs. Margaret Hamburg and Joshua Sharfstein, both Harvard Medical School grads, have been chosen by President Obama to be the commissioner and deputy commissioner of the Food and Drug Administration.  They still must face confirmation hearings.

The FDA may have installed three food safety offices in China, but that doesn't alter the way that country is dealing with the melamine scandal. Two men were sentenced to death for their role in contaminating milk for infants that led to the death of six children. Two women are facing life in prison.

The former board chairwoman of a Chinese dairy company went on trial over a tainted milk scandal that killed six children and made nearly 300,000 more ill on Wednesday. Tian and three other executives may face the maximum penalty of death for producing and selling contaminated baby formula.

Consumers can test for lead in children's toys, fashion jewelry and all products with these lead-test kits that are available for home use. Consumer Report rates them, while the CPSC says they are not reliable.

The FDA opened its first food safety office in China today with two more to follow. The offices will oversee $2 trillion in exports of food and drugs to the U.S. The trick will be to find a third party verifyer to certify the products before they are shipped.

The FDA is looking out for any candy with milk chocolate from China after melamine contamination was uncovered last month in milk products. Canada has found melamine in chocolate gold pirate coins, the U.S. has not, but urges consumers to watch out for specific foods and candies from China.

The milk contamination scandal in China has now been found in Cadbury Chocolates made in Beijing. US candy makers say they don't use milk products from China for US distribution, but they are recalling candies off the shelves in Asia.

Two arrests have been made and 19 people are detained in China after it's alleged that they added the chemical melamine to milk at a processing facility. Toxic baby formula has now killed 2 infants and hundreds are sickened. The FDA warns parents in the U.S. not to feed formula from China to infants.
