The FDA is issuing a warning about diet pills, especially those with "natural"  or "herbal" ingredients. Many contain potentially dangerous ingredients that are not FDA approved and slipped in under, "supplements" which are not regulated.

A diet rich in nuts, beans, pasta and lentils was superior to a high cereal-fiber diet in controlling symptoms of diabetes and heart disease, according to a new study published in the Journal of the American Medical Association.

Airborne Health Inc. did not admit any wrongdoing, but they have agreed to pay $7 million to settle investigations by 32 state attorneys general and the District of Columbia over past marketing and labeling of its dietary supplement products.

An experimental drug, Qnexa, helped obese patieints lose an average of 9.2 percent of their weight during a 28-week trial. Drug maker Vivus Inc, says the drug is well-tolerated. One component is the other half of the drug fen-Phen that has not been taken off the market.

Consuming huge amounts of sugar after starvation caused rats to display the same addictive behaviors as you'd see with heroin or cocaine. That may explain why some people crave sugar and cannot stop, even when they know they should.

Dieters are being told they must eat MORE! - of the right things that is.  The Mediterranean Diet plus a handful of nuts added to the health overall of those apple shaped people who have high cholesterol. Just make sure the nuts aren't in addition to snack foods, but replace them.

A study involving mice suggests pregnant women may be better off opting for canola oil over most types of vegetable oil. Researchers found that canola oil in the maternal diet during pregnancy and nursing reduced the risk of breast cancer in babies.

A new study suggests that most all fast foods contain chemical elements or ingredients derived from corn either in forms of meat, oil or others. Researchers claim cows were predominantly fed a diet of corn, which makes them as fat as possible in the shortest span of time.

The benefits of omega-3s are far reaching and include reducing the risk of heart disease and stroke, symptoms of high blood pressure and more. Stocking up on omega-3s is fairly simple once you know what foods to look for next time you stock the fridge with groceries.

The European Medicines Agency (EMEA) has recommended the suspension of Acomplia (rimonabant) from Sanofi-Aventis. The agency concluded that the benefits of Acomplia no longer outweigh its risks and marketing should be suspended across the European Union (EU).

In surprising results out of University of Oxford, researchers found elderly, at the low end of normal in vitamin B12, showed the greatest amount of brain shrinkage over a five year period. Meats, salmon and mollusks contain the most B12. Estimates are nearly half of us are deficient.

A new study suggests adults and children who excessively overeat may be missing one of two genes for BDNF (brain derived neurotrophic factor) a brain chemical that is needed to help appetite control.

Researchers followed a group of moderately obese dieters placed on one of three diets - a Mediterranean diet; a low-carbohydrate diet based on Atkins; and a diet with 30 percent fat based on American Heart Association guidelines. The study findings determined low-carbohydrate diets were most effective.
