Millions of kids aren’t getting enough vitamin D, the sunshine vitamin, possibly increasing their risk for heart disease, bone problems and other health risks. In sheer numbers, 7.6 million children have a vitamin D deficiency while 50.8 million have insufficient levels.

Three million fitness balls sold under the Bally Total Fitness, Everlast, Valeo and Body Fit brands have been recalled by EB Brands because the balls can burst unexpectedly and cause the user to fall. The company has received 47 reports of injury to date.

The effects can be seen even when levels of blood sugar, or glucose, are only moderately elevated, a finding that may help to explain normal age-related cognitive decline

Researchers have long known that lack of sleep is bad for your health. Now a new study suggests an extra hour of sleep each night may lower the risk of developing calcium deposits in the arteries, a precursor to heart disease.

A large new study that followed more than 21,000 male doctors for two decades, found that even a few extra pounds and a little inactivity increased the risk of heart failure. The findings suggest that overweight men who are not obese still have an increased risk of heart failure.
