So far text messaging while driving is banned in 13 states with more states likely to join as the death count mounts from the dangerous activity.

California becomes the sixth state to prohibit texting while behind the wheel of a vehicle. Critics say the fine is small - $20 for the first offense. A survey finds texting while driving is age-related,  the younger the driver the more they do it.

Teen texting while driving is more distracting than cell phone use, and equal to driving while intoxicated DUI, but few laws exist to address the problem. In the absense of legislation, schools and parents need to stop driving while texting or DWT.
