Men who have low levels of vitamin D, also known as the “sunshine vitamin,” may be at higher risk for a heart attack, according to a newly published study. Researchers found that men classified as deficient in vitamin D, were approximately 2 1/2 times more likely to suffer a heart attack than those with adequate levels of the vitamin.

New published research out of Children's Hospital, Boston, finds that 28 percent of young children are facing a risk of vitamin D deficiency while 12 percent are already deficient. Breast-fed infants are often deficient and supplementation is suggested.

Exposure to ten minutes of sunshine a day without sunscreen may help provide valuable vitamin D that is increasingly being shown to be important in the fight against breast cancer.
