California becomes the sixth state to prohibit texting while behind the wheel of a vehicle. Critics say the fine is small - $20 for the first offense. A survey finds texting while driving is age-related,  the younger the driver the more they do it.

9 children ranging in age from 1 to 17, have been abandoned at a Nebraska hospital under the states new Safe Haven law.  The law was intended to protect newborns whose parents want to relinquish custody, but lawmakers didn't forsee teens being abandoned.

Gardasil has not been the blockbuster that Merck needed after the Vioxx settlement and other bad news for the company. A label expansion is not predicted to change that. Now the immigration service will require the HPV vaccine before any young female is granted permanent legal resident status to the U.S.

The first wrongful death lawsuit has been filed in connection with last Friday's collision of a Metrolink commuter train with a freight train. Southern California has been slow to adopt new technology that serves to prevent human error. With the technology, "there's no question the accident would not have occured," says attorney Paul Kiesel.

Simplicity is recalling a 4-in-1 and 3-in-1 bassinet after two infants strangled between folding cloth and the bars.  You are encouraged to return the item to the store where you purchased it. Unfortunately, the majority of used and dangerous baby items remain in circulation.

Disney has revised its blanket prohibition on employees bringing guns to work. Backing off a bit from a new state law that allows employees with a concealed weapons permit to keep guns in their car, Disney will allow those who don't work near explosives.

Researchers from the University of California, San Diego, combed through 50 million death certificates from 1984 to 2004 and found a 360 percent increase in accidental drug overdoses of prescription medication. Partially to blame is the availability of prescription drugs, especially painkillers. 25 years ago, they were available only in the hospital. Now about a quarter of people exchange them.

After being dismissed in 2006, lawsuits against military contractors Halliburton and Kellogg Brown & Root (KBR), a former subsidiary, may go to trial in 2009. The lawsuits are over an ambush that left six civilian truck drivers in Iraq dead.

While its been a dozen years since TWA Flight 800 had an "in-flight breakup" off the coast of Long Island, the FAA is now ordering modifications to aircraft design. Many, including award-winning reporter, Kristina Borjesson, feel the FAA has it all wrong.

The value on replacing a life has been quietly reduced by the EPA as part of its cost/ benefit analysis. The Associated Press discovered the reduction of about $1 million on human life which goes directly to weighing the cost versus the lifesaving benefits of a proposed rule. The less a life is worth, the less a need for imposing regulations on pollution and toxic cleanup.
