Teen Girls Brutalize Another To Post On YouTube

As the parent of teenaged daughters, my first question is where were the adults while this was happening. And as far as the mother who made excuses for her daughter beating this girl, she should be charged too. There is no justification for a group of kids beating another - none whatsoever. Kids learn from their parents - we can't blame YouTube and MySpace when we allows them to watch reality TV. We are a society that sees humiliating ourselves for the world to see as entertainment. And by allowing our children to view that garbage, we are condoning the behavior.

Michelle, you are 100% correct. Perhaps if parents were given the same consequences as their child, they would be more responsible with their children from the beginning.

I think everyone that was at the house should all spend alot of time in jail and let someone beat on them and see how they like it. Shame on the parents that owned the home that this happened at because they need to be held accountable also. I heard all the girls were worried about was missing cheerleading practice, I think they should be kicked off the squad. Shame on all the girls that sat and allowed it to happen. The children need to go to church and learn "Do unto others as you would have them do unto you".

How about locking these kids up for 10 years, then interviewing them when they get out and they just lost the best years of their lives. We'll see then how seriously they take it. "Am I going to miss cheerleading practice?" "Sorry kid, you're going to be missing a lot more than that".

I think that the girls should be held monetarily accountable for the girl's medical bills as well as her future therapy for the rest of their lives.

Prison time is another excellent idea, not to mention, the fact that a lot of the prison population saw th news this aired. They may become instant celebs, and get a bit of fear struck into them.

Prison would sort them out. Let them know how it feels to NOT be top dog and maybe take a beating off some hard woman in there. They are not animals cos an animal would not lure another to somewhere where there are 6 others waiting. They are sick. End of. If anyone did that to my kid they'd get it back ten fold.

Why is this so shocking? This is just an unfortunate result of adults not taking any interest in parenting our teenagers. It's more important to further our careers, make more money, have bigger houses, etc., than to sit down and get to know whats happening in our children's lives. These are depressed, angry and empty young girls who are acting out violently to get attention, if only negative. We are all accountable for this and I hope we finally wake up and start caring about our families.

These low life scumbag cowards should be locked up for the rest of their lives! Their parents should be sued in to bankruptcy, and any other kids in their homes should be removed.

I couldn't disagree more. The days of it taking a village to raise a child are done. In my youth, my neighborhood friends' parents were given the approval to discipline me if I stepped out of line in their homes, so I knew not to go acting up in Johnny Clark's house because he'd punish me as if I were one of his own sons. I accepted that, and I learned to respect other people as a product of that. You try that today, and if children are even bothering to venture beyond their gaming console of choice, the parents of their friends are not going to step in and try to correct any maladaptive behavior. This is the society that we have made for ourselves; heck, we should be happy.

However long they get won't be enough. What you're looking at is future criminals.

What would I charge them with as a prosecutor? First of all, they all deserve to be charged as adults. Charge them all with some type of criminal conspiracy/criminal enterprise, then also Kidnapping I, Assault I, and Unlawful Imprisonment.

In the State of Washington, assuming that none of these criminals had any felony criminal history, if found guilty of the Kidnap I, Assault I, and Unlawful Imprisonment, their standard range would be:

145 to 194 months prison; and that's not even including any aggravators that may be available to add to the charges filed.

Still not enough time---at least in Washington, the Kidnap I and Assault I would give each of these idiots 2 strikes. (3, and you get mandatory life in prison w/o parole).

Why waste time with these punks. If they were sophisticated enough to do all this at age 16, we need to put them away forever. They've lost their rights to live in our society.

what I don't get is, CBS saying the video was not posted on youtube. Its there several times, not only that people are posting the full names, addresses and phone numbers of the 6 girls. These girls, and their parents, will be lucky to not get lynched, tarred and feathered as soon as they show their faces. This is mob mentality, and vigilantism on a national scale. There will be no place for them to hide, as people from Alaska to Arkansas are ready to beat the living daylights out of them.

Totally does not surprise me the way kids are today and the way parents are, please this is becoming the norm. When it shocks us maybe we will stand up and make people accountable for their actions. Until then it will gets worse. I feel as though we all have alot to say but take no action to change it. We let police and government control our homes lives and children. Those 8 teenagers should be put in prison for LIFE. They should be beaten and see how it feels when someone knocks them unconcius. I hope Victoria recovers from what happen to her. She is in my prayers.

I agree that the girls need to be charged as adults and put in prison for a long time not only for what they did but for feeling no remorse at all. They need to see that there are consequences for that type of behavior and be made an example to other teenagers.

Sounds like these kids come from criminal homes. I hope the police investigate the "parents" of these gangsters.

If we do not stand up as citizens of this country we will loose our rights all of them the government WILL take control and we will be living in the middle of Aldous Huxley’s “Brave New World” The ideas of this book scared the crap out of me I had to read it in high school. But the images of these “children” have been flashing though my mind since I saw them on last night’s news reports. I wanted to vomit, cry and scream all at the same time. I also disagree with Marcia 100%. There has to be a time when teenagers are accountable for their own decisions. How many teens out there are not close with their parents and don't go off on an innocent victim like this? These girls made an extremely poor decision and now should pay for it.

I agree with K. Many Children grow up in terrible homes, but they rise above it! They go on to bigger and better things!

I am torn, I want the parents to suffer too, but theses kids are 16. They have minds. They think and feel just like adults, so what they did in this video was all planned and thought out. It honestly isnt the parents fault, unless there is evidence against them.

But these girls are evil, and i too want to throw up. My sister is 16 and just the thought of her being beaten like that makes me flush with anger.

You may disagree, but in this country, 16 year olds are minors, and the parents are accountable until they are adults. I believe the teens should be punished for their actions, but the parents should have instilled respect for persons and authority, and if no one is at home teaching this, kids will act out their anger and abandonment by hurting others. Wake up parents.

Indeed this instance is not shocking. I am a Psychology Major and considering society's acceptability for such atrocious behavior in the media has fueled children's behaviors. I am not saying it's the Media Man and that's it. Children, and especially teenagers have the capability to differentiate between right and wrong, and parents should get involved in their children's lives, and intervene. Good children do not just one day decide to viciously attack someone just for kicks, there is a progression and it is the parents' duty to recognize these signs. Also teenagers that do unthinkable acts such as this KNOW it is wrong, but are so caught up with thinking it makes them look cool and will get attention (although negative) from press and friends. It's sad but true

I disagree with you brittany. I don't know the full story, but even if this girl was "talking *sh*t" as you say, that's no reason for her to be beaten.

As for fighting back, 6 on 1 aren't very good odds, even for professional fighters. Further, she might not have known how to defend herself. As amazing as it might seem, some people don't even know how to make a proper fist, let alone take on (really) 8 attackers (the guys easily could've jumped in at any point, and then she really would have had problems). Not to mention all the emotions that run through your head as it's all happening that impair your judgment.

Let's cut the poor girl some slack and remember the main point here! Nobody EVER deserves to be brutalized, fighting skills or not!

I think that these people should get the biggest punishment known to them, No one and i mean no one deserves to get beaten down like that.. I dont care if you talked "shit" on myspace to them. Do you really think that thats enough reasoning to beat the girl to the point that her own father doesnt reconize her when he goes to the hospital and then she has problems with her left eye and ear. This isnt the only thing that I have read about this accident. I've also watched videos, and one them was Mercedes mom covering her head I say if she wants fame over myspace and youtube why not give it to her now! I mean I would be ashamed of my daughter. Then to think that she lived with Victoria and she did that because she was pissed because she used her razor with out asking and wouldnt give her $4.00 that she owed her too...
