FBI investigators established a hotline (816-421-8639) for customers of Kansas City pharmacist Robert Courtney who was recently charged with diluting chemotherapy drugs. To date, hundreds of calls from worried patients have been received. Courtney is charged with misbranding and adulterating drugs. Officials say that other charges are likely.
Frantic patients call the hotline in an attempt to find out whether the drugs they took were diluted. Unfortunately, investigators say that it may be difficult to link Courtney to the death of any of his customers. Courtney did admit to FBI investigators that he diluted Taxol, Gemzar, Paraplatin, Procrit, Neupogen, Roferon, and Platinol, all chemotherapy related drugs. Officials say Courtney also diluted TPA, a drug used to treat stroke victims.
Many of Courtney's former customers have joined a class action suit filed against the pharmacist.
