Saturday morning around 9 a.m. on highway 15 a vehicle driven by a 72-year-old from Sassafras crossed into the path of a coal truck, striking it head on. The 72-year-old was killed. Heavy rains may have caused a tractor trailer accident Friday just outside of Columbia on the Louie B. Nunn Parkway. The driver apparently lost control ran off the roadway and struck a guardrail, then crossed the westbound lanes, overturned and landed in the median. A semi tractor-trailer overturned Saturday causing Kentucky 141 to close for about 3 ½ hours. The 2001 Freightliner carrying a load of corn missed a curve, crossed the center line and dropped off the shoulder of the road.
