Carbamate is used in many commonly applied pesticides and is regulated by the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) under the Federal Insecticide, Fungicide, & Rodenticide Act (FIFRA). Excessive exposure to carbamate has been shown to cause fatigue, joint and muscle pain, and headaches. There is some suspicion that the use of carbamate pesticides in the Persian Gulf War may be responsible for the mysterious Gulf War Syndrome. Additionally, carbamate may be particularly harmful to pregnant women, infants and children.
