Central Florida environmental groups and local residents are concerned about the GEL Corporation's landfill.
Toxic chemicals are leaking from the site and may be approaching Orange City's drinking water supply. City officials have detected high levels of
ammonia and
benzene in the water.
The City recently sent its water sampling data and a list of the landfill's environmental violations to the Florida Department of Environmental Protection. Orange City is requesting that the State agency revoke GEL's dumping permit.
