A miscarriage occurs when the fetus dies from natural causes (i.e. not induced abortion) prior to the twentieth week of pregnancy. Most miscarriages occur before the thirteenth week. Vaginal bleeding and cramping during pregnancy may be indicative of an approaching miscarriage.
