Peritonitis is an inflammation of the peritoneum, the membrane that lines the wall of the abdomen. The condition may be characterized by the inability to pass feces or gas, abdominal pain and tenderness, fever, lack of urine,
nausea, increased sense of thirst, chills and other symptoms. Peritonitis can cause a life-threatening
infection. Emergency medical care is often recommended for those who suffer from peritonitis. Among other causes, peritonitis may result from a poorly performed
laparoscopy.
