Sporanox, also known as itraconazole, is an anti-fungal drug manufactured by Janssen Pharmaceutica Products. In May 2001 Janssen and the FDA issued a press release warning doctors not to prescribe Sporanox for fungal nail infections in patients who suffer from heart failure. The drug has a tendency to weaken the force of heart contractions. In addition, the FDA informed doctors of several instances of liver failure in patients taking Sporanox. At least a dozen people have died after taking Sporanox. You should see your doctor if you have concerns about the safety of Sporanox.
